The Gift of the Chase

On the 7th - and final - day of racing, Hammerhead ambassador Maghalie Rochette had 5km to go before she was crowned winner of the BC Bike Race. With a sizable lead on the general classification, Maghs knew the yellow leader’s jersey she had been chasing all week was finally within reach. Just as she started to relax and cruise in for the win, she hit a rock, puncturing a tire and denting her wheel - leaving her at a standstill right before the finish line.

Competitors began passing her by left and right as Maghs tried repairing the broken wheel to no avail. As she stood on the course watching the yellow jersey slip through her fingers, her partner, David, came riding to the rescue. They quickly swapped wheels and Maghs cycled to the finish, securing the BC Bike Race title.

After chasing this accomplishment all week, she realized the win wasn't the yellow jersey. The real win was the chase. The real prize; the competition. It was the pursuit and righteous competition that allowed Maghs to find the best within herself, proving the gift of the chase is what truly matters.
